Syria
The conflict in Syria has left one of the deepest humanitarian crises of our time. Tens of thousands of people remain missing after years of war, arbitrary arrests, forced displacement, and widespread violence.

Behind every statistic are families living in endless waiting, without information about the whereabouts of their loved ones or access to truth, justice, or reparations. Making the disappeared in Syria visible is an essential step in acknowledging the suffering of the victims, demanding accountability, and moving toward processes of remembrance, dignity, and reconciliation.
The Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala (FAFG) has made a significant contribution to strengthening local capacities by conducting training sessions, workshops, and providing technical advice on forensics and the search for missing persons, sharing its accumulated experience in armed conflict contexts.
These efforts contribute to the development of more humane, technical and coordinated responses, aimed at dignifying the victims and upholding the right of families to know.
