Global Forensic Academy

The Global Forensic Academy is a training program developed by FAFG for professionals involved in the search for missing persons, particularly in countries in the Global South.

The program strengthens capacities and shares the knowledge developed by FAFG through its multidisciplinary approach, adapting it to the local contexts of each country.

It takes place in Rwanda, a global reference in transitional justice. The country’s history offers an opportunity to reflect ons memory, healing, reconciliation, and non-repetition—key pillars of forensic work.

In 2025, the program brings together professionals from 15 countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Syria, Sudan, Liberia, Myanmar, South Korea, and Lebanon, among others in the Global South.

From November 17 to 22, 2025, a specialized workshop was held in Kigali, Rwanda, with 25 participants from these countries. Over one week, participants strengthened their knowledge of forensic science applied to human rights, the search for missing persons, and transitional justice.

The workshop also included visits to memorial sites and a Reconciliation Village, where residents shared their experiences of community healing. These exchanges helped participants better understand the role of forensic rigor in advancing truth, reparation, and non-repetition.

The program strengthens both technical skills and an international network prepared to address forensic challenges in complex contexts.

Participants will continue their learning journey at the next workshop in Guatemala in April 2026.
