Femicide

Femicide is the action of causing the violent death of a woman, without the State having the capacity to solve the case.

FAFG. continuing with its line of investigation in forensic anthropology, analyzed the data obtained in the Justice Department’s morgue, where information from 2001 to 2006 was gathered. From the analysis of this information, a probable victim’s characteristics, areas with the greatest risk, and the most violent month, day and time were established, with the objective of creating prevention plans that will contribute to lowering the rate of this type of death in women.

The sample total was of 1026 victims. The more affected age group was between 16 and 30 years, and the most common cause of death was fire arm injuries, the majority being to the head.

I The study was conducted with the information from Guatemala City and surrounding areas, and revealed that between 2001 and 2006 this type of crime increased by 130%. For the year 2008 FAFG focused on three principal aspects: criminal policy, crime scene management and non-identified victims (XX) case management, with the objective of establishing mechanisms, procedures, deficiencies and strengths that the institutions in charge of the criminal nvestigations in the country possess.
